First Home Grant scrapped while First Home Loan scheme remains
The Government has this week announced scrapping of the Kainga Ora ( KO ) First Home Buyer ( FHB ) grant effective immediately while keeping the first home loan scheme which allows first home buyers to purchase a home with a 5% deposit instead of the normal 20%, under significant concerns about KO’s financial performance and governance.
The Government housing agency Kainga Ora, is the country’s biggest landlord owning more than 70,000 homes with assets of $45billion and $2.5billion annual expenses.
The first home grant offered qualifying First Home Buyers $5000 toward an existing or $10,000 toward a new home.
The announcement was in response to a review of the organisation as part of the Coalitions 100 day plan.
